Pearl Mace MBE

Pearl Mace was immersed in chamber and orchestral music from an early age. At the age of 17 she studied at the Royal Academy of Music gaining the GRSM and diplomas in both performing and teaching. For 3 years she was director of music at a girls' grammar school.

Coming to Hampshire she taught in Eastleigh & Romsey and also played in a chamber orchestra giving concerts to schools throughout the County. She directed and trained the Eastleigh Area Schools Orchestra and worked with young musicians in chamber music. She also taught privately, some pupils were award students, and many have since become professional music teachers and members of professional orchestras.

In 1990, Pearl was made an Honoured Citizen of Eastleigh for her local work in music and in 2003 was elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for work of distinction in the profession. In 2011 Pearl was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours in recognition of her services to music in Hampshire
