Coaching
The course offers three coached chamber music sessions each day: two in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Members are asked to provide their own chamber music and scores where possible, but orchestral music (except concerto orchestral parts) will be provided.
Afternoon Activities
String Orchestra will take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. For 2019 the String Orchestra studied Respighi Ancient Airs and Dances.
Subject to sufficient demand, there may be the option of a large wind ensemble on one or two afternoons (tba); repertoire will be selected to suit those indicating on their application form that they wish to play.
The afternoon also provides the opportunity to form ad hoc music groups.
Evening Activities - Chamber Orchestra
A Chamber Orchestra, directed and conducted by Michael Mace, will be held each evening. All interested members are encouraged to join the orchestra, which enjoyably concludes each day's playing.
In 2019, the repertoire included Mozart Symphony No 31 and Dvorak Czech Suite .
In 2020, the repertoire was planned to include Faure Masques et Bergamasques Suite and a Beethoven Symphony.
Concerti: An invitation is extended to any player who would like the opportunity to play a solo with the chamber orchestra and benefit from the experience of playing with an orchestra under the guidance of an experienced conductor. Extracts of up to 10 minutes will be considered, but acceptance will be at the discretion of the Musical Director and organisers. Please state details on the back of the application form and ensure that you will be able to provide orchestral parts if your request is scheduled.
Members' Concert
An informal members' end-of-course orchestral concert will be held in the main hall at 7.30 pm on the final evening. Friends are welcome to attend the concert which is followed by drinks.
